ankieditor is a tool for editing and customizing Anki card templates without touching HTML/CSS. I built it myself after getting tired of searching every time I needed to tweak one line of my own Anki templates. Click the part of the card you want to change, pick a font or color, and the updated code is generated instantly — just copy it and paste it into Anki's Card Types screen and you're done. Your templates are stored only in the browser you're using now, and never sent to a server.
Tools → Manage Note Types → Cards... and copy the contents of the three panes: Front Template, Back Template, and Styling. If you would rather follow along with pictures, see the walkthrough with screenshots.
No. Card content — the word or its meaning, for example — is edited by opening the note in Anki. ankieditor works on the template: the font, color, and layout that content is displayed with. Change a template once and it applies to every card that uses the same note type.
Neither. You use it right on this page, and your templates are stored only in the browser you are using now. They will not show up on another computer, so keep a separate copy of any template you care about with [Copy Code].
Templates live inside the note type, so once you paste the code into Anki on your computer and sync, it follows the same note type to your other devices. The menu instructions are based on Anki desktop 23.10 and later.
Other questions are collected in the FAQ.
① Paste your Anki template (Front/Back/Styling) into [Import].
② Click the part of the card on the right you want to change to select it. Click empty space to target the whole card.
③ Adjust font, size, color, line height, and alignment in the panel on the left.
④ Use [Copy Code] to copy the updated code and paste it into Anki's Card Types screen.
⑤ In [My Templates], enter a name and click [Save Current Template] to load it again later.
{{FieldName}} variables are shown as pill-shaped chips and are never changed.
Templates are stored only in this browser. Clearing your browser data will delete them too.
